Photo and audio visual exhibition "Subcultural Images" At Vytautas On the 29th of September a photo exhibition has been opened in the lobby of the Faculty of Humanities at Vytautas Magnus University. Photo exhibition is comprised of photographs from personal archives of subcultural group members’ (authors: D. Jurevičius, V. Lekas, L. Maskaliūnaitė) and photographs made during the first fieldwork (by G. Jaronis, R. Pranskevičiūtė and E. Ramanauskaitė). Members of various subcultural groups are captured in their natural environment, during various subcultural events and concerts such as festivals D.I.Y. Open Air Jam, Rock Nights and Baltic Sound. On the opening day of the photo exhibition the same lobby hosted an audio visual exhibition representing various religious movements (International Society of Krishna Consciousness, Visarionas, Anastasia, Neo-pagans), “Taste” subcultures (goths, punks, metalists, bikers, skinheads, hip-hop, yuppies, hippies), and ethnic groups (folk groups and bands of nontraditional music). Everyone interested in the history of particular subcultures, their world views, values and beliefs could watch short video presentations made by researchers and by subcultural groups’ members. 10-11/2006.

Academic Cultural Forum At Vytautas Magnus University Academic Cultural Forum has been organized as an attempt to establish an experimental environment together with the members of sub-cultural communities in order to facilitate communication between sub-cultural groups of different values and religious beliefs, academic community and society at large. During the event members of sub-cultural groups such as Lithuanian Green movement, Visarionas, Anastasia, International Society of Krishna Consciousness, abstinent youth, punks, skinheads and bikers together with the researchers had a chance to present their world views, values, beliefs and lifestyles. Group members presented the history of the communities and their attitudes showing short films and photographs, sharing their experiences, answering numerous questions from the audience, discussing existing tensions and sensitive issues. A representative of International Society of Krishna Consciousness has performed a classical Indian dance and explained the symbolic meanings of the movements which added an exotic flavor to the event. In the afternoon members of subcultural groups gathered in Vytautas Magnus university yard where Tadas Šimkus, a student of Kaunas Art Institute, painted a graphic “Srautas” (Stream) on the walls while members of MAK group painted graffiti. At the same time participants could enjoy performances of DJs, MCs, beatbox and breakdance. 30/09/2006
